RAF Irvin Flying Jacket - Wired

RAF Irvin Flying Jacket - Wired

Code: J21000

SOLD

Electrically Wired Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket.  Physically measures approximately 44” so should be suitable for around a 40” chest. Classic early wired example with single panel fronts and just one centre seam on the back of the jacket. Fitted with an integral wiring loom within leather channels sewn along each sleeve and across the lower back to enable the use of R.A.E. heated gloves. A short umbilical cord connected the jacket to matching trousers via a 2-pin socket.  Another umbilical connected the wearer to the aircraft via a larger alloy 3-pin plug.  The leather is in good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and flexibility. The surface feels a little dry, is heavily creased and does have small areas of abrasion, particularly on the binding tapes which are very worn in places, but the general appearance of the jacket is good.   All seams appear good and tight. The The wiring loom is still in place (most wired jackets have had the wiring stripped out) and has both 2-pin plugs and RAE 'posts' in place. Both umbilicals are also present but we believe these have been reinstated.  Very good short dense fur typical of early war jackets.   The waist and cuff fur is worn but a reasonable amount remains.  The jacket retains original D-o-T zips, all with their original leather puller tags. The notably narrow profile belt is complete and in good condition. This example has a chain hanger, collar strap/rings (former a bit worn) and eyelets to the rear of the collar for the elastic 'collar strap' (not present). No label. Overall this is a good/good + example of these rare wired jackets.   Further photographs avaialable on request. Stock code J21000.
