RAF Irvin Flying Jacket

RAF Irvin Flying Jacket

Code: J19703

SOLD

Physically measures approx. 46” so should be OK for around a 40 - 42” chest. Interesting example with typical late war multiple panelled front and rear sections. The leather is in very good overall condition retaining amost all of the original chromed finish and good flexibility. Faint remnants of white paint can be seen on both shoulders.  This could be the outline of a bomb or some mascot but is too worn to be to be distinguished.  There are no tears/repairs to the main body or arms.  The jacket does have a small 'puncture' blemish on the lower right front panel, just adjacent to the zip.  This measures approximately 5mm and is not significant - see the photos.  There is also some surface wear and crazing to some of the right arm panels but again, these are not particularly significant. Close inspection of the zips suggests that they may have be replacements.  All are the correct period brass D-o-T type and the main is complete with leather puller tab.   Excellent mid length slightly shaggy dense brown fur lining.  This is a bit worn at the waist and has been re-trimmed on both cuffs.  The collar fur has also been re-trimmed.   The jacket has the original belt, chain hanger and collar strap/rings.  There are soft verdigris deposits to metal components such as the zips, collar rings and underarm vent eyelets.  This is usually easy to remove using cotton buds soaked in metholated spirits.  A good late war example.    Stock code J19703.
