RAF Irvin Flying Jacket

RAF Irvin Flying Jacket

Code: J19737

SOLD

Physically measures approx. 44" around the chest so should be OK for around a 40” chest. This is the version with the painted yellow hood popular with Airgunners and Coastal Command crews flying in more exposed conditions.  Four panel front and rear construction.  The leather is in very good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and good flexibility. There are no tears/repairs to the panels but there is fairly minor surface wear and crazing and slight thinning at the shoulders.  The hood retains excellent original paintwork and flexibility. Interesting faded artwork on the left breast, unfortunately this is difficult to make out but may be some squadron 'mascot' - an eagle holding a bomb or a hornet perhaps?  Original brass D-o-T zips at the centre and left arm. The right arm zip tape is complete but the slider is missing -  easy to replace if you have a spare one. Excellent mid length slightly shaggy dense brown fur lining.  This is still very good at the waist and both cuffs.  The jacket has the original belt and label with War Department broad arrow and clear 1944 date.  The jacket would benefit from leather dressing but is essentially a very good example.   Other measurements : all are approximate and taken externally with jacket laid flat and zipped.  Chest 42-44", 21" waist, 24 " from rear collar/neck seam to waist, 24" from shoulder seam to cuff, 12/13" from armpit to waist.  Stock code J19737.
