R.A.F. MK.IV Flying Goggles C/W Flipshield

By Levers Optical. Stores Ref. 22c/111. The first of the MK.IV series goggles with a painted brass frame incorporating hinged lens holders. With this pattern the lenses fit directly into the goggle frames and do not have sub-frames around them. The goggle frame is in excellent condition with virtually no paint loss. The leather nose-piece is equally good & the chamois backing has light even soiling. The rubber pads are modern replacements and look excellent. The strap loops are excellent and all of the strap springs are very good to one side. The other side appears to have couple of broken springs but the appearance is good. The leather section is good and has clear A.M. markings. Whilst the clear lenses have edge delamination marks their appearance is very good. Finally there is the anti-glare screen, commonly known as the \'flipshield\' with the long exposed type spring mechanism. The shield has light scuffs/marking and is broken near one of the mounting holes (see photo). This has evidently been glued at some stage and I see no reason why this could not be redone. Overall this is a very good set of goggles. The MK.IV is considerably rarer than the IVB and this is reflected in the price. Stock code G15535.
