Stores Ref. 22c/746. Size 3. Extremely rare early, externally wired version of the E-type helmet with a leather chinstrap and Bennet buckle fastener. The aertex cloth is generally in excellent condition showing light use and soiling only. There is one repaired/darned area to the crown area (approx. 2 x 2cm - see photo). Both rubber earpieces are in excellent flexible condition and the interior of the helmet/inner chamois donuts are very good. The chinstrap is very good and retains the metal tip whilst the Bennet buckle is excellent. Interestingly the chinstrap has had the velvet chin-pad from an American AAF flying helmet attached so perhaps this may have been used by the 8th AAF? The goggle straps are all very good and the press stud poppers have virtually all of the original brown coatings. Air Ministry, King's Crown and reference number plus AID marked. A very good helmet. Unwired. Undoubtedly one of the rarest helmets to find. This is only the 4th or 5th example we've had in 25 years. Unwired. Stock code H14981.
