R.A.F. Type K Dinghy Sail - History

Code: SOLD-1418

SOLD
Stores Ref. 27C/2085. Manufactured from cotton fabric, dyed red and in the form of an isosceles triangle. The edges and corners are reinforced and the corners eyeletted for the bow guyline and steering lines (not present). Printed with sailing instructions. Quite clean and bright - relatively light fading. Good condition bar a 2cm tear (see photo). This sail comes from a dinghy that was found by a member of the Ulster Home Guard in Bangor Bay (Northern Island). The loose dinghy may have come from the base at RAF Ballyherbert (home to the Polish 315 Sqdrn. and their Spitfires) but this is pure speculation. The dinghy was given to the previous owner by his great uncle (the UHG man) in the early 1960s. This is the only part remaining. Comes with a letter from the vendor detailing all of the above. Stock code M18970.
