Made from segments of coloured silk and woven cotton with a small pocket at the end to take the message and a weight. These were dropped from aircraft over aerodromes and troops in the trenches in order to supply reconnaissance information to those on the ground. Overall length approx. 1.37m. Marked at the pocket end 'Please Return X Flt. Yervada' with '10' to reverse side. Unusual example with the blue and orange sections made from silk. The red being the usual woven cotton. Superb bright colours and in excellent condition bar a fade line where folded (see photo).
