By Irvin Air Chute. Parachute, Single point, quick release with seat pack. Commonly referred to as the 'pilot's parachute'. Classic white webbing with a central coloured thread fleck (various colours were used during the war). The harness is labelled and reads 'PILOT' with serial number (label is torn and faded). It is also stamped elsewhere with a war department arrow, Irvin Air Chute marks and April 1943 date. Correct fully rounded quick release box, ripcord housing (torn around the elasticated cotton part that holds the ripcord), ripcord and handle (incorrect ripcord/handle - these were abandoned once used and this has been mocked up by previous owner to look the part). The parachute pack itself is in a dark chocolate coloured canvas with a cotton label printed with A.M. King's Crown mark & illegible serial number and date. No bungees fitted. The assembly comes with the correct pattern period seat cushion filled with Sorbo rubber. The assembly is fitted with a silk canopy c/w rigging lines and these are attached to the harness. The G.Q. canopy is clearly A.M. stamped, dated 21 June 1940 and has matching serial numbers to the harness. The canopy appears to be in excellent order. When purchased it was hanging out of the pack and has now been repacked. Photos of the canopy, serial numbers and packing will be supplied to the buyer. The webbing harness is in excellent condition and fairly clean. The pack, backpad and cushion are all in good to very good condition and quite clean. Please note that the 1940 dated canopy is original to the harness (matched serial numbers) but the harness would appear to be 1943, unless this is a later inspection date? Possible, but I suspect an earlier produced canopy is being used with a later harness. Extremely rare to find genuine wartime dated seat assemblies. Superb display piece.
