U.S.A.A.F. A-2 Flying Jacket

U.S.A.A.F. A-2 Flying Jacket

Code: SOLD-873

SOLD

The classic A-2 flying jacket. By Aero Leather Clothing Co. Marked as a size 40 but with a physical pit to pit (x2) measurement of about 44". Mid tan leather with matching cotton lining. The leather is generally very good to excellent with no rips, tears or repairs. The only 'faults' are wear at the fold of the collar, a greyish paint (?) mark on the left sleeve and the usual colour variation in the leather. Complete with all the usual A-2 features including the collar snaps and hook, leather hanger, underarm vents, label and original 'Conmar' zip. The original chocolate brown wool knitted cuffs have holes and wear - more to the right cuff than the left. The knitted waistband is a more russetty brown colour but nevertheless original. This has some holes and fraying but is generally quite good. The lining is also generally good although there are a few small holes along the lower edge and some damage/detachment and holes/slits adjacent to the collar/lining seams (see photo). Named to E.E. Bennett, service number 0-816035 - both neatly stencilled onto the lining which also carries a small 'AN' inspection mark. There is clear evidence that the jacket originally had a large circular squadron/unit patch stitched to the left breast. Beneath that there is further evidence of a now removed leather name patch. Indeed, in good light you can still make out the name which matches that stencilled on the lining. Stitch holes can also be seen on the epaulettes where leather rank bars have been removed. The zip is in good working order up until the top 3cm where one side of the zip tap lacks a few teeth. As long as the zip slider isn't moved beyond that point there is no issue. Overall this is a good solid jacket. Could be tidied up with repairs to the lining and/or re-cuffing if required. We also have the original owner's brother's (1st Lieut. G. Bennett) wired C-type helmet and will list this in due course. Stock code J17438.
