Prisoner of War camp made briefcase, approximately 28 x 20 x 9cm (including handle).  'Tin-bashing' was quite a popular pastime in camps where the prisoners took empty food tins from Red Cross parcels and cut, hammered, bent and soldered the metal,  fashioning it into useful objects.  This well made briefcase is made from old coffee tins and the manufacturer's details can still be seen on the inside  - 'Newball & Mason Ltd.'  The case has a fully working hinged lid, two catches and articulated handle.  A superb rare piece of 'trench art'.  Stock code M23962.
