B&w, approximately 25 x 20cm. Shows the USAAF Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber 'Enola Gay' and the pilot Paul Tibbets. The aircraft was named after Enola Gay Tibbets, mother of (then) Colonel Paul Tibbets. On 6th August 1945, it took off from Tinian Island and became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, code-named 'Little Boy', over the city of Hiroshima, Japan, causing extensive destruction. Brigadeer General Paul W Tibbets died in 2007 at the age of 92. This relatively modern photograph is hand signed by Tibbets. Excellent condition, comes with a newspaper obituary.
