75 Years ago today the Battle of Britain continues. Saturday 13th July 1940 saw the south east of England cloaked in fog that gradually cleared throughout the morning. Another 4 fighter pilots were lost that day. 19 Squadron Hurricane pilot Sergeant Raymond Robert Grenville Birch lost was killed during dogfight training. 56 Squadron Hurricane pilots Sergeant Joseph James Whitfield and Sergeant J. R. Cowell were both shot down during combat over the English Channel near Calais. Australian 238 Squadron Hurricane pilot Flight Lt. John C. Kennedy (see photo) was wounded during the shared 'kill' of a Do.17 over Chesil Beach, later stalling and crashing to his death at Southdown. 610 Squadron Spitfire pilot Sergeant P.I. Watson-Parker crashed a died during a routine patrol near Biggin Hill.
