D-day 80th Anniversary

80 years on we remember those who took part in the D-day landings and the Battle of Normandy during the following months, many paying the ultimate sacrifice. This map and photographs were used during the operation (Neptune) as part of BIGOT (British Invasion of German Occupied Territory), covering the area around Aubin Sur Mer / Juno beach. It was carried on T.S.S. Clan Lamont which was built as a cargo ship in 1939 but requisitioned by the Admiralty and hastily converted to a Landing Ship in 1944. Commanded by Canadian Navy Captain Angus Campbell, it left from Southampton for Normandy with French Canadian troops on board, arriving in Assault Convoy J10 off Juno Beach. The photographs are of the coastline shown on the map. Brave men, one and all. We will remember them.
