By H & S. Size No.3. 1941 dated. Broad arrow marked. Very coarsely 'knitted' heavy string vest. This is the earlier style with 'string' shoulder straps rather than wide cotton tapes. The vests were issued to some aircrews as an escape aid. If needed the vest could be unravelled and plaited to form a strong rope to aid escape. One assumes that for a decent length of rope the escaper would have to use a fellow prisoner's vest as well.... A bit dirty and with some slightly ragged ends but in very good condition. The label has very faint manufacturer's details, war department broad arrow, size and date. You need the right angle/light to see the details but they are there! Stock code E22484.
