RAF B-type Flying Helmet

RAF B-type Flying Helmet

Code: H17665

SOLD

Stores reference 22c/66. Size 2 (67/8 - 7). Labelled but not maker marked or dated.  The overall appearance is rather tatty. The helmet is lovely and supple but unfortunately the surface of the leather is suffering from 'red rot' resulting in the characteristic flaking and peeling. The helmet is fitted with zipped earpieces, one of which is in very good condition, the other has some deterioration.  Both have working original zips, one of which retains the leather pull tag. Both earpieces have rubber receiver carriers fitted within. The chinstrap is excellent and still retains the metal end piece. The Bennett buckle is equally good and retains the leather covering. The backstrap and the rear Bennett buckle are both very good.  Interestingly a small addional strap has been sewn at the back, clearly a field modification.  The chamois lining is in very good condition, relatively clean with less than average soiling and has a small label and A.I.D marks. Unwired. Whilst this helmet could be displayed it might also be used for parts - excellent straps, buckles, receiver carriers, lining parts and good earpieces all making useful spares. Should it fail to sell we will cannibalise it for parts. Stock code H17665.
