Italian La Cicogna (The Stork) ‘Protector' flying goggles by Ratti of Torino. Chromed steel frames with an adjustable bridge, vented grey rubber face cushions, curved lenses and an adjustable elastic strap. The frames are in excellent condition with clear markings. The celluloid lenses are equally good, one still with original 'vetroflex' label, and the cushions retain excellent shape and flexibility. The strap is excellent, clean and appears to retain full elasticity. Giuseppe Ratti, a photographer and owner of an optics shop in Turin, began to develop goggles in 1917. This model is of quality manufacture with a good finish. You will note the similarity to the Luxor goggles so popular with Battle of Britain pilots. These 'Protectors' are almost certainly unused and come in their gilt coloured aluminium case. Superb rare goggles. Stock code G26348.
