RAF external wiring loom with type C carbon microphone

Code: H20591

SOLD

External flying helmet wiring loom.  Stores reference 10A/10353.  Type Q instrument cord (loom) wired to a type C carbon microphone, stores reference 10A/9004.  Technically here, it's a 'Microphone, mask, type E' (stores reference 10A/9003) because the microphone is complete/mounted with wiring and plug.  The microphone consists of a bell-shaped, chamois covered, black painted brass carrier (not the cheaper alloy version).  The actual microphone is mounted within this (ref. 10A/7355).  Part of the inside of the carrier is sprayed with powdered cork which acts as an insulator against condensation and noise.  To the base of the carrier are two moulded breathing vents and there is a toggle switch at the top.  This example is in very good condition and rare in retaining virtually all of the original chamois covering.  These microphones were used with the cloth type D oxygen masks and pre-date the flat-fronted type 18 (type 19 when mounted/wired).  Photographic evidence suggests they saw considerable use during the Battle of France and into the early days of the Battle of Britain.   The mid tan coloured loom has 'fully rounded' cords and is fitted with an early brown cased type 119 bell jackplug, stores reference 10A/10991.  There are a few chips on the plug casing and the loom is a little soiled with spots of hardened black rubber (?) deposits as shown.   Minor fraying at the receiver terminals but generally in very good condition.  All ready for your B-type helmet and D-mask.  A great set.  Stock code H20592.
