Rare uniform to Air Chief Marshall Sir David Parry-Evans, GCB, CBE, p.s.c., p.s.c.(n).  He was born on 19th July 1935, son of the late Group Captain John Parry-Evans (RAF medical branch) and Dorothy Parry-Evans.  Educated at Berkhamstead school, he joined the RAF as a direct entrant in 1956 and on completion of pilot training, was posted to 205 Squadron in Singapore flying Shackletons.  He then had a three year tour with the Air Sea Warfare Development Unit at RAF Ballykelly followed by an exchange tour with the United States Navy and in 1967 he attended the Royal Navy Staff College at Greenwich.  The following year he was appointed as Flight Commander of 206 Squadron at RAF Kinloss. Between 1970 and 1974 he served with RAF Strike Command and was then appointed CO of 214 Squadron followed by Station Commander at RAF Marham in 1975.  He was appointed Director of Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence in 1979, Commandant of the RAF Staff College, Bracknell, in 1981, and then Air Officer Commanding No.1 Group at RAF Bawtry in 1982.  In September 1983 he became Air Officer Commanding No.38 Group at Upavon and in 1985, Commander in Chief, Air Force Germany and Commander Second Allied Tactical Air Force.  Two years later he returned to the MOD as Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff.  By 1989 he had attained the rank of Air Chief Marshall and been appointed Air Member for personnel.  In 1991, back at the MOD again, he co-ordinated work being undertaken in the aftermath of the Gulf war.  He retired in 1992 and became Chief Commander of St. John's Ambulance.  Parry-Evans was awarded the CBE in 1979, the KBE in 1985 and GCB in 1991.  He died on 25th August 2020.

Here we are offering Parry-Evan's No.1 Service Dress jacket with the rank of Air Chief Marshall.  Tailored by Gieves & Hawkes of Savile Row, London, it is named to him and dated 25/3/75.  The jacket has a padded Queen's crown pilot wing, Queen's crown staybrite buttons/buckle, Air Chief Marshall rank lace and ribbons for The Companion of the Order of the Bath (C.B.), The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) and the Jubilee medal (1977). The jacket is in excellent condition and comes with Parry-Evans' 'Air-Rank' service dress cap tailored by Gieves.  This has a lovely Queen's crown Air Rank badge and twin rows of bullion leaves on the leather peak.  There is some damage to the inner leather band as shown but is generally very good.  The uniform comes with some biographical information and a photograph of Parry-Evans in this very jacket.  Obtained directly from the Air Chief Marshall by the previous owner.  Stock code U27604.
