Privately purchased flying jacket manufactured by REBE in soft brown hide. Typical short waisted design with full length front zip fastener and angled zip pockets at the chest. Straps at the cuffs have press stud fasteners and there are twin buckled straps on each side at the waist. Chocolate coloured sateen weave cotton mix lining with one internal pocket. Fitted with silver bullion lieutnant rank shoulder boards via 'field tailored' leather loops. Solid cast alloy pin backed Luftwaffe breast eagle attached to right breast via sewn loops. Unfortunately the eagle has been 'de-nazified', or in German 'entnazifiziert' with the removal of the swastika. The leather is generally in very good condition, supple and undamaged bar a small patch on the back and general surface abrasion and wear. The finish and appearance could no doubt be improved further with the application of a light leather dressing but we will leave this decision to the buyer. Original 'Ri-Ri' main zip and 'MEWA' pocket zips are in excellent working condition. The majority of the lining is in good order but there is wear and some holes around the neck seam and some restitching at the armpits. There is also a small tear adjacent to the inner pocket. Woven manufacturer/retailer label reads - 'RE BE Marke Seit 1875' (RE BE brand since 1875). A lovely jacket, typical of the many privately purchased jackets so popular in the earlier stages of the war. Superb display piece. Stock code J22762.
