Fliegerschutzanzug fur Sommer (Kombination) - Introduced in 1934 the K/So 34 one-piece flying suit was manufactured in a heavy brown/white flecked cotton commonly referred to as 'salt and pepper' fabric. Fitted with a long diagonal zip fastener from waist to shoulder and with zips at the sleeve and leg ends. It also features zipped leg pockets and side entry slits along with concealed elasticated inner cuffs. This is a relatively early 'intermediate' pattern sommerfliegerkombi dating from 1937. It is fitted with a horizontally positioned fly zip but lacks the map pocket on the chest - this being replaced with the ring-pull emergency release cord that was introduced so that the wearer could remove the suit quickly without the need to undo any zips. Overall condition is excellent. There are a few small snags/darns on the rear but the cloth remains strong and is generally very clean. The inner cuffs have lost some elastication but all press stud poppers are good and the 'ZIPP' branded zips are original, complete with leather puller tabs and in good working order. Note that the main zip lacks a puller tag and although there is no damage to the tape or teeth, some care is required when opening and closing, lubrication would no doubt be beneficial. The suit retains the original quick release ring pull and cord and leather collar strap/ring. With washed out manufacturer's/retailer's label but has a clear ink stamped 1937 date and Luftwaffe unit marks 'KGR 155'. This bomber unit operated Dornier 17s between April 1936 and February 1938. The unit was redesignated as KG158 and later as KG55. Size unknown but physically measures approximately 42" pit to pit (laid flat and zipped), pit to ankle 46", pit to cuff 18", 29" inside leg. An excellent display piece. Stock code S24296.
