Cappello Berretto Regia Aeronautica. The Regia Aeronautica was the independent air force of Italy from 1923 to 1943, serving as a key military arm of Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime, and operated as an Axis power in WWII before the 1943 armistice. This WW2 pattern junior officer's peaked cap is manufactured in a fine weave grey-blue cotton/wool mix with leather peak, chinstrap with gilt eagle/crown buttons, bullion cap band and padded badge. The latter comprised of a spread eagle surrounded with a laurel wreath and surmounted with a crown. Lined in tan satin. The cloth is a little faded/worn/soiled with some old fray damage as shown. Wear to the peak which is partially detached at the side as shown - fortunately not visible in use as hidden by the chinstrap. Good band/badge and chinstrap/buttons. Wear to the inner leather band which is partially detached as shown. The lining is quite good with plastic cover largely intact. Faded/indistinct manufacturer's details beneath but appears to have been made by a Treviso based maker. A little 'tired' looking but now a rarely found cap. Stock code U29466.
