RAF Mk.III flying goggles

RAF Mk.III flying goggles

Code: G27615

SOLD

Stores reference 22/69.  One of the classic 'Battle of Britain' pattern goggles.  The frame is very good bar some light rubbing, paint loss and a little verdigris (always looks worse in close up images).  All of the frame screws are original and both frame 'stops' remain in place.  The leather surround has some surface wear and as usual, the internal padding has hardened.  The nose-piece is very good and supple, unusually this one has a second, larger piece of leather stitched behind, effectively increasing the depth of the nose.  This was presumably done to help seal the gap between the wearer's goggles and oxygen mask.  Very good original lenses with only relatively light scuffing and scratches.  All of the strap springs are excellent and the leather strap section remains strong/supple.  With very faintly embossed Air Ministry King's crown, reference, A.I.D. markings and 1936 date.   A good '+' / very good pair of rare British manufacture Mk.III goggles.  Stock code G27615.
