RAF Irvin flying jacket, early pattern

Code: J27514

SOLD

'Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket'.  Physically measures approximately 45/46” (maximum) so should be OK for around a 41/42” chest.  This example is of typical early war construction with a two panel front and single seam rear.  The leather is in very good overall condition and has much of the original chromed finish with good flexibility.  Most of the panels appear robust but there is perhaps a little 'thinning' at the shoulders.  The leather shows light wear and abrasion but other than a small stitched repair under the left armpit appears to be free of damage.  Fitted with original  zips throughout, each with leather puller tabs.  The dense golden fawn coloured lining is excellent bar a small 'rough' area in the inside of the windflap (see photos) and relatively minor loss at the cuffs and waist.  The seams appear to be good and tight, the belt is good and the collar is complete with strap/rings and rear eyelets for a strap (not present).  A very good early example that displays very well.  Stock code J27514.

Approximate size, jacket zipped and laid flat: pit to pit 22.5-23", centre pit seam to cuff 20.5", shoulder seam to cuff 25", lower pit seam to waist 12", mid pit seam to waist 13", collar seam to waist 23".
