RAF 1939 pattern flying boots, S9

Code: B27517

SOLD

Boots, Flying, Knee, 1939 Pattern.  Stores reference 22c/229.  Size 9.  1940 dated.  Classic Battle of Britain boots identical in pattern to the earlier 1936 pattern but with vulcanized canvas uppers.  The leather shoe section is in very good condition showing average wear and tear.  The canvas uppers are also very good but have been dyed black, seemingly a common modification.  They are lightly soiled but they retain strong overall colour and have only minor wear at the ankles.  This pair is fitted with the earlier leather strap/buckle, again both are in very good condition.  Loss of lining fur is common with these boots but this pair is unusually good with reasonably clean dense pile.  No insoles fitted.  The boots retain original stitched leather soles and rubber heelplates.  These are worn but perfectly sound.  Complete with clear Air Ministry King's crown markings and 194? date (most likely 1940 as these were soon superseded by the 1940 pattern suede boot) on the puller of each boot.  The monogram 'AR' has been marked on the other pullers.  A very good '+' used pair of these rare early boots.  Stock code B27517.
