RAF MK.3B flying helmet

RAF MK.3B flying helmet

Code: H22304

SOLD

Stores reference 22c/1301773. Size small. The MK.3B is a variant of the MK.2A helmet with the same avionics system but fitted with the MK.2 Anti-Glare visor (centre rail mounting) used on the MK.1A flying helmet.  It was intended for use in fixed wing aircraft without ejector seats but provided with oxygen equipment (for masks type 'P' & 'Q' plus a modified version on the 'H'). The moulded glass fibre resinate shell is finished in its original white paint. The internal padding is in beige leather with a green edging. The shell is good order bar yellowing, the usual minor stress cracks, small scrapes and scratches (nothing serious). Internally the helmet is good but the foam rubber backing ond the brow padding has all but gone as usual.  Remarkably, the neck padding appears to be undamged with good foam rubber backing.  Retains excellent gel filled ear capusles.   Fitted with a standard short pigtail loom and NATO plug 10H/18575. The tinted acrylic visor is a new old stock replacement and still has the protective coating on the inner surface.  Considerably rarer than the later 3C. A really nice example and a super display piece. Stock code H22304.
