RAF Goldfish club ashtray - history

Code: M15956A

SOLD

Opaque glass ashtray marked 'The Goldfish Club' and with the club's badge.  Approximately 12.5 x 9.5cm.  This belonged to pilot Flight Sergeant Gordon 'Guff' Eaton of 'B' Flight, 275 Squadron, stationed at RAF Andreas, Isle of Man.  He was flying with F/Sgt. Jim Campbell (RCAF) and they were forced to ditch their Anson and take to the emergency dinghy, thus becoming members of the Goldfish Club.  Strangely 275 Squadron undertook air-sea rescue duties for 9 Group, covering the Irish Sea so they were probably spotted/picked up by their colleagues!  This item was purchased about 15 years ago with other related items directly from Eaton's son but is now surplus to our collection.  It was no doubt obtained at one of the reunion dinners he attended.  Very good condition.  Stock code M15956A.
