'Mirrors, Aircraft, Type B.' Stores reference 27H/2017. Manufactured by H&S. Original rear view mirror as fitted to all Spitfire fighter aircraft from the MK.II onwards. Comprises a solid brass domed casing with internal bracket mount point. The actual mirrored glass and edge ring bezel are absent. The casing has minor dents and a small split at the edge. Virtually all of the external paint is absent but the Air Ministry, reference and manufacturer's marks are clearly visible. The internal mirror mount section is good bar some paint loss and surface corrosion on the sprung 'star' that would have held the mirrored glass against the bezel. Comes with the original waxed card disc normally fitted behind the mirrored glass. Incomplete but neverthess a rare and desirable item. Stock code M17882.
