Australian reference code L1/40. Manufactured by Stokes. One of the classic 'Battle of Britain' pattern goggles. The frame has very light paint loss and some verdigris but remains in excellent condition. All of the frame screws are original, both vent 'horns' are good, and one frame 'stop' remains in place. The unusual and distinctive light tan velvet backing is superb (most Aussie variants have a deep plum chocolate coloured backing) and the nosepiece leather is also excellent. The lenses look excellent but are probably replacements. The strap springs function but some have twisted, notably on the left side as worn. Both cloth spring coverings, in an unusual plum coloured cotton, are excellent and the leather strap section is very good with full RAAF markings and 1940 date code. Other than the Australian markings and colour variations these are of identical pattern to standard RAF issue IIIAs. Really good used goggles. Stock code G24302.
