Tailored by 'Chamberlain & Jones, Makers Of Fine Clothes, 39 Aldwych W.C.2'.  Officer rank service dress trousers in blue-grey barathea.  With buttoned fly and braces attachments.  In fair overall condition but peppered with moth holes.  Most notable on the side/front of the left leg and right buttock area.  These were worn by 51 Squadron Battle of Britain pilot Peter Raymond Hairs (76316).  Born in Thornton Heath, Surrey, he joined the RAFVR in October 1937 and undertook flying training at No.19 Elementary & Reserve Flying Training School, Gatwick.  At the outbreak of war he was called up and joined No.6 Flying Training School at Little Rissington, Gloucestershire, and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer.  In December 1939 he was posted to 11 Group Fighter Pool, St. Athan, where he converted to Hurricanes and in January 1940, was posted to 501 Squadron at Tangmere.  On 14th May, during the Battle of France, he was credited with damaging a Do17 and a shared Do17 the following day.  With the squadron back at Tangmere he flew in the Battle of Britain, claiming a Me109 on 5th September.  On 13th October Hairs was posted to No.13 Service Flying Training School at Kidlington, Oxfordshire as an instructor.  He undertook an instructors' course at Cranwell in February 1941 and was posted to No.11 FTS, Shawbury, to instruct.  In June he was posted to Canada as Assistant Chief Flying Instructor.  On return to the UK in December he joined 276 Air Sea Rescue Squadron at RAF Harrowbeer, Devon.  In May 1944 he moved to No.19 Operational Training Unit, RAF Kinloss, Scotland as Officer in Command, Bomber Defence Training Flight, and his final posting in July 1945 was on admin duties in India.  Hairs was released from the service in October 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant.  He was mentioned in dispatches c. June 1945 and made an MBE c. January 1946.  Post WW2 he worked as a bank manager, retiring in 1975.  He died in 2014.  A rare opportunity to own a Battle of Britain pilot's trousers.  Named to Hairs on label.  Stock code U27241.
