RAF Mk.IIIA flying goggles, c.1936

RAF Mk.IIIA flying goggles, c.1936

Code: G26951

SOLD

Stores reference 22c/62.  One of the classic 'Battle of Britain' pattern goggles.  There is no escaping the fact that these are rough.  The  frame is reasonably good, there is some minor distortion but there are no issues with the hinge and both frame stops remain in place.  Only one of the original frame screws remains but sourcing suitable replacements shouldn't be too difficult.  The velvet backing is very heavily soiled and squashed with part of the right pad (as worn) being partially detached.  The leather nosepiece has surface wear on the chromed side but is strong and reasonably good.  Both lenses are original and have surface scratches/scuffing.  The right one (as worn) is also partially distorted.  All strap springs on one side are absent, those on the other are broken/twisted but the leather strap section is good with a clear A.M. mark, reference numbers and 1936 date code.  A tatty pair of increasingly scarce goggles.  Stock code G26951.
