Air Ministry, Jacket, Airmen (1936 pattern), Size 9 (5’8, Sleeve 32”, Br. 39-40”, Wt. 36”). Manufactured By C.M.Co. Ltd., 1939 dated. Purchased 17 years ago this incredibly rare early war dated other ranks tunic is offered from our own collection. It has distinctive faux French cuffs and is fitted with a beautiful padded wing in silky oatmeal thread, woven on felt shoulder eagles, sergeant stripes and 3-lugged brass Airgunner winged bullet badge*, standard King's crown brass buttons and belt with pressed brass buckle. There are a few very minor moth nips on the pile of the fabric but these are barely visible (no holes) and the tunic is very clean. The overall condition is excellent throughout. Lovely Air Ministry label and clear A.I.D. stamp. These just do not turn up - a superb piece for your Battle of France or Battle of Britain display. Stock code U15971.
*The airman in question presumably trained initially as an air gunner, later retraining as a pilot. This did happen, one example was Squadron Leader Ian Blair DFM - he trained as an air gunner but was involved in an incident when flying in a Blenheim. His pilot was killed so Blair took the controls and flew the aircraft 350 miles home to safety, gaining the DFM. He went on to retrain as a pilot. As an aside we have Blair’s boots in our collection, purchased directly from his daughter some years ago.
