RAF / FAA Irvin flying jacket - hooded

Code: J25171

SOLD

Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket.  Physically measures approximately 46” so should be suitable for up to around a 41-42” chest.  This example is of four-panel front and rear construction (see photographs).  The leather is in very good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish, appearing to be strong and has excellent flexibility.  There are areas of abrasion, notably on the sleeves/cuff areas and some minor surface nicks but these really don't detract.  Most of the stitching appears good/tight but there are a few areas that could be improved with a little effort.  Fitted with its original yellow painted hood, this has surface cracking but retains most of the paint and good strong colour.  Excellent dense mid length fur lining with slightly shorter fur inside the hood.  Both cuffs have wear but the waist retains most of the fur trim.  There is notable wear on the right side of the belt (as worn) but the other side is good, as is the buckle.  The jacket retains the original zips, 'Lightning' marked on the sleeves, one with leather puller tab, and an Air Ministry main zip.  The hanger is absent and two RCAF cap buttons have been sewn in place.  These were presumably linked with a piece of cord at some stage.  A good solid example of the hooded pattern.  Stock code J25171.
