RAF Irvin flying jacket

RAF Irvin flying jacket

Code: J22039

SOLD

'Thermally insulated flying suit, jacket'. Physically measures approximately 46" so should be suitable for around a 42" chest.  Classic early example with single panel fronts and just one single vertical seam on the back of the jacket. The leather is in good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and flexibility. The general appearance is good to very good  bar the usual rubbing, soiling and general wear.  There is some thinning of the leather at the shoulders but nothing serious.  The seams appear to be good and tight. Very good short dense fur throughout the body of the jacket but this is really rather worn at the waist and both cuffs.  Some wear on the collar edge too - see photographs. All zips are original, with 'D-o-T' marked sliders.  Two have leather pull tags attached.  Retains the original belt, the non buckled side showing wear and twisting through use and storage.  The belt loop on that side is also rather worn - see photographs.  Fitted with a chain hanger - currently detached at one end, collar strap/rings and eyelets at the back of the collar for an elastic 'collar strap' (nor present). Label absent.  Overall this is a good early war example, typical of those worn during the Battle of France and Battle of Britain.  Futher photographs available on request. Stock code J22039.
