RAF Irvin flying jacket

RAF Irvin flying jacket

Code: J22722

SOLD

'Irvinsuit' by Irving Air Chute of Great Britain Ltd.  Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket.  Size 7 (Ht. 6'2 - 6'4", Br. 40 - 42", Wt. 36 - 38"), 1941 dated.  Physically measures 47" (pit to pit) so should be suitable for around a 43" chest.  This example is of early configuration with single panel front and twin panel rear construction.  The leather is in very good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and flexibility.  There is light wear, abrasion and loss of chroming in some areas, notably the left sleeve/elbows area.  There are no holes, tears or repairs and the binding seams appear to be good and tight.  Excellent short dense fur lining and collar facing.  Both cuffs and waist retain very good fur, the latter appears to have been carefully retrimmed.  All zips are period 'D-o-T' branded, the sleeve sliders also being A.M marked.   The main zip is probably a period replacement (original period zip) and the sleeve zips have some restitching.  All have leather puller tags.  The belt is complete and in good condition.  Also has the original chain hanger, collar strap / rings and eyelets to the rear of the collar for the elastic 'collar strap' (absent).  With lovely large Air Ministry and Irvin marked linen label dated 1941.  Overall, a very good '+' to excellent used example in a large size.  Further photographs available on request.
Approximate measurements : pit to pit 23.5", pit to cuff 23", Collar seam to waist 26". All taken with jacket laid flat and zipped.
