RAF Irvin flying jacket

RAF Irvin flying jacket

Code: J22040

SOLD

Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket.  Unlabelled but physically measures 44" (pit to pit x2) so should be suitable for around a 40" chest.  This example is of early to mid-war configuration with four panel front and rear construction.  The leather is in excellent overall condition retaining virtually all of the original chromed finish and flexibility.  Although the appearance is genuinely remarkable the leather does feel a little dry and is relatively 'thin' in places.  There is a little light wear and minor abrasion on the upper arm/shoulder areas but no holes, tears or repairs and the binding seams appear to be good and tight.  Excellent mid length dense fur lining with a shorter dense fur collar facing.  Both cuffs and waist retain very good fur.  All zips are period Air Ministry 'D-o-T' branded, each with original leather puller tag.  The belt is complete and in very good condition.  Also has the original leather hanger, collar strap / rings and eyelets to the rear of the collar for the elastic 'collar strap' (absent).  Overall, a very good '+' to excellent used example.  Further photographs available on request.
Approximate measurements : pit to pit 22", pit to cuff 19", Collar seam to waist 23". All taken with jacket laid flat and zipped.  Whilst we do not sell original kit or clothing for use/wearing we know that some clients do want to wear Irvins and measurements are given as a guide only.
