RAF Irvin flying jacket

Code: J22659

SOLD

'Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket'.   Physically measures 46" (pit to pit) so should be suitable for around a 42" chest.  This example is of later war multiple panel construction.  The leather is generally in good to very good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and flexibility.  However, there is wear, abrasion and loss of chroming in some areas, notably the lower sleeve areas.  The right sleeve/cuff area is rather worn and there is a small hole (see photos).   Towards the centre of the back there is what appears to be heat damage where the leather is much smoother than that surrounding it.  This isn't an issue but it does look different and there is also a small hole at the bottom of the area.  The rest of the jacket is sound and the binding seams appear to be good and tight.  Excellent mid length shaggy fur lining with shorter fur on the collar facing.  The left cuff retains much of the original fur trim but the right is very worn.  The waist trim is good at the back but worn at the front and there is some wear at the edge of the collar.  All zips have been replaced with modern YKK brass ones.   The belt is complete and in quite good condition.  No internal hanger.  Retains  part of the collar strap (worn/part missing) and rings.  Unlabelled.  The jacket would benefit from some leather dressing that would improve suppleness and appearance.   Despite some issues this is a good solid jacket.  Further photographs available on request.
Approximate measurements : pit to pit 23", pit to cuff 21", Collar seam to waist 25". All taken with jacket laid flat and zipped.
