Stores reference 10A/12052. GPO 150 series candlestick type telephone with brass base, stem and cradle. Fitted with a bakelite microphone housing/mouthpiece and earpiece. This variant is fitted with a rotary dial (some variants have no dial). Overall condition is very good. There is wear/patination of the brass but the finish appears to be original and there is no evidence that this has ever been painted. The bakelite is also very good without any cracks or chips and the rotary dial turns/returns smoothly and is a joy to use. The phone is fitted with its original braided cotton wiring. Marked with stores number to the underside of the base. Candlestick phones were introduced around the beginning of the 20th century and saw use into the 1930s, but although old fashioned, this type of phone would have seen wartime use on RAF stations and at the Air Ministry alongside the more modern 200 series telephones. Now a rarity, all RAF phones are hard to source, candlestick variants are near impossible. A great display piece and a real talking point. Stock code M24217.
NB. This phone has not been converted for use and has no internal bell. It would have been used with a separate bell box. It is a relatively heavy item, hence the postage/shipping fees.
