Cast brass handbell with turned wooden handle and heavy chain/ball clapper. Approximately 25cm tall. Engraved on the brass collar with Air Ministry, King's crown and 1941 contract markings. Shows use and wear but in good overall condition. The use of these was probably varied and may have included service as fire bells, calling men to order for lectures/briefings, air raid alerts or even to help 'scramble' fighters for a sortie.
