By Smiths. 12"/30cm white painted dial in a solid mahogany 15"/37cm diameter case. 8-day Smiths 'Empire' 151 platform lever escapement movement. The dial is in nice original condition with fine Arabic numerals and 'Smiths' logo. It is totally unrestored and displays some age related staining/marking but no paint loss or chipping. The hands are original to the clock and although they have light surface corrosion, remain in good order. The wooden surround has a lovely patina and is free from damage beyond the odd small blemish. The back box has a couple of splits but obviously these are not seen in use. It is clearly stamped 'NAAFI'. The 'spun' brass bezel is equally good with the original hinge. The movement is maker marked, has just been professionally cleaned/lubricated, is running well and keeping good time. All in all this is a lovely unmolested clock attributed to the Navy, Army and Air Force Insitute and dating from around 1943. This could feasibly have been used on an RAF station. An excellent working display item.
