RAF station wall clock

Code: C27430

SOLD

By F.W. Elliott Ltd. of Croydon.  Stores reference 21B/2119 (same reference as the Type II).  Type III 'white dial' station wall clock with a 14" dial and 18" diameter solid oak surround and case.  It has a 14"/35.5cm dial with Roman numerals and King's crown RAF crest and is fitted with a pendulum driven Elliott 7779 'Springer' movement which has distinctive 'wedge' shaped tapered front and rear plates.  This late war / late 40's non-fusee movement was intended to run for 12 days, keeping accurate time for the initial 8.  It is maker signed and has the serial number 5420.  The case is in good '+' overall condition with only minor knocks and blemishes.  The dial is generally good but does have scuffs, scratches and has suffered some paint loss and surface lifting, notably around the edge and securing screws.  Fortunately the majority of this is hidden by the bezel.  There is variation of the dial colour in places and a couple of very small re-touched chips but the overall appearance is good.  It could be improved but we would suggest that a damaged original dial is always preferable to a fully restored example.  The clock retains original blued hands and spun brass bezel with 'wartime' blackened paint finish, there is some paint loss as shown.  The hinge, glazing and glass retainer ring are all good.  Complete with original pendulum and a key.  The movement has not been cleaned or polished but lubricated lightly with clock oil and is in good working order, currently keeping time accurately.  A lovely display piece.  We would prefer this item to be collected but are willing to post worldwide entirely at the buyer's risk.  Stock code C27430.
