R.A.F. khaki fur felt slouch hat as issued to personnel in the Far East and Western Desert etc.  Has the original  narrow band fitted with sewn RAF 'flash'. The inner leather lining band is in good condition and stamped with maker's marks, size, 1944 date and owner's name and number, Also retains the original leather chinstrap and buckle in good order. This example has an aluminium foil lined crown and is fitted with the press studs often used to hold one side of the brim up against the crown. Overall condition is very good.  It is quite clean and largely moth free (small hole on underside of the brim - see photograph).  There is deterioration of the foil within the crown.  Belonged to LAC H.G. Helsby who served at RAF Station Takoradi in West Africa during WW2.  We also have his photograph album available separately (click here).  That includes photographs of Helsby wearing the hat.  A very good used example.
