Original copy of drawings by Zena Walker who helped design dummy (fake) Allied equipment to confuse the enemy. This sheet illustrates 'Device No.6', a Bofors anti-aircraft gun installation utilising 'collapsible' camouflage netting, plywood 'barrels' and dummy crews. The use of such dummy guns played an important role during WW2, helping to convince the enemy of Allied strength and divert attention. Such subterfuge was used before D-day as part of Operation Fortitude when inflatable rubber tanks, aircraft and the like were placed to convince the enemy that troops would launch an attack on Norway, and north east of Normandy in the Pas de Calais. Approximately 78 x 67cm. Scale 3/4" - 1', dated 8th October 1943, it shows an oblique and plan view of the 'fake' gun position and gives details of the paint colours/finish to be used. Folded and has dog-eared edges/corners but in good overall condition. Super reference material. Rare. Stock code P16885.
