This was the personal Christmas card of Alois Kubita, approximately 13 x 9cm with gold embossed Czech pilot wing and script. Red, white and blue ribbon decoration to spine/fold. Greeting to internal page.
Alois Kubita (CBE) 1892 - 1954, fought in the First World War, being wounded three times. In February 1918 he completed the Air Observers course only to be shot down later the same month, falling into Italian captivity until the end of the war. He graduated as a pilot in the early 1920s and in 1927 became military and air attaché in Great Britain. In February 1932 he returned to combat units, where he commanded several squadrons. In 1940 he escaped through France to Britain and joined the RAF where he controlled the Czech Air Force Transport Pool and worked mainly as a liaison officer at the headquarters of the RAF Transport Command. In 1945 he returned to Czechoslovakia was promoted to brigadier general and in 1949 to divisional general. Kubita retired in 1950 & died in 1954. He was one of the few 'Western pilots' to avoid communist persecution.
