Manufactured by Auer in Berlin the 10-6701 was designed for use with the LkpN101 and other flying helmets modified for 2-point mask attachment. Due to its light weight construction and compact size it found favour amongst many fighter and fighter-bomber pilots. Many later examples were modified with an extra strap to aid stability and for use with helmets having 3-point attachment systems. The black rubber facepiece is generally in very good condition. It retains good overall shape and reasonable flexibility although there is some stiffening and fairly minor cracking at the lower edge - see photos. The original chamois edge lining is in place and is complete, clean and soft. The ribbed elastic webbing harness is in very good condition, retains excellent colour and some elasticity. All metalwork/clasps are equally good. The oxygen tube is undamaged and remains flexible but the alloy clothing clip is rather poor with both damage and corrosion - ideally this would be exchanged for a better example. Overall this is a very good example of this rare unmodified mask that displays well. Helmet shown for display purposes only, is not included in the sale but is available to purchase separately.
