Small section of wreckage from B-17G Flying Fortress, 44-8683 of the 388th Bombardment Group, 8th AAF that crashed into Great Whernside near Kettlewell, Yorkshire whilst on a training flight on 17th May 1945.  Sadly the crew of five (no gunners on board) all died. The part, approximately 9.5 x 4 x  8cm,  is believed to be a section of engine cowling gill and is marked 'Boeing' with part numbers as shown.  Originally collected by an 'aviation archaeologist' who also supplied the photocopied information on the crash and crewmembers and certificate of authenticity.  Stock code `M24215A-88.
