Size Small (physically measures about 38-40" externally beneath arms). By S.A.A.D. Designed for use by aircraft mechanics but also popular with aicrews as a flying jacket. Constructed from 1/4" seal brown sheep shearling and very similar in appearance to the B-6 flying jacket. Several variations exist with/without pockets but this example has two zipped slash pockets at the front. The jacket is not without issues although the overall appearance of the jacket is fair. Much of the leather is actually quite good retaining much of the original chromed finish and reasonable flexibility and strength. Unfortunately some areas have faired less well, most notably the collar which is very ragged with loss to the leather and fleece. Some repairs and patching was done by the previous owner to try and stabilize this but it really requires further attention or even replacement as it is all very fragile. In addition there is a tear on the lower rear left panel that would benefit from patching, a rather crudely repaired tear close the right cuff end and other smaller stitched repairs. Note also the circular patch on the left shoulder area adjacent to an original colour AAF decal and a well executed patch to the centre right of the back. The lining is generally very good, even at the waist and cuffs. Labelled and with chain hangar attached to rear of neck area. Original Talon zips throughout. The main and one pocket zip are functional but rather stiff, the other pocket zip is currently siezed. All can probably be improved with careful lubrication. Most D-1 jackets that turn up are in very poor condition as they saw heavy use and wear. Even in period photographs they are often seen with rips and tears. This example has obviously seen some heavy use but is displayable and could be improved with some work. Priced accordingly. Stock code J24513.
