USAAF Type F-1 electrically heated flying suit

USAAF Type F-1 electrically heated flying suit

Code: S25332

SOLD

USAAF Suit, Type F-1, Electrically heated 24 volts DC.  Manufactured exclusively by General Electric.  Size 42.  One-piece felted woven wool suit with a blanket style lining.  It has Talon branded zip fasteners from the crotch to the neck, on the inside legs, cuffs and fly.  Integral wiring elements and sockets at the wrists and ankles allow heated gloves and boot liners to be attached.  The suit has a wiring loom attached to the front with a 2-pin plug for connection with an aircraft's electrical circuit.  It also has knitted cuffs, anklets and collar plus a buttoned flap at the rear for toilet use.  Commonly referred to as the 'Blue Bunny', these suits were issued exclusively to B-17 Flying Fortress crews as the B-17 was initially the only aircraft to use a 24-volt system prior to the abandonment of 12-volt systems.  With label and faded AAF ink stamp.  Even if you can find one, these are usually very badly mothed.  This example is generally very good bar light soiling and minor moth trailing.  It has a small repair to the left ankle area and associated knitted anklet - see photographs.  The zips all function but would benefit from careful lubrication.  The right leg slider lacks the puller tag.  A good example of this rare suit.  Stock code S25332.
