SOLD

Bureau of Aeronautics, USN Flight Jacket, Intermediate, G-1.  By L.W. Foster Sportswear Co. Inc.  Size 42.  Physically measures approximately 45").  This is from the 1951 N383-22356A contract, Specification MIL-J-7823(AER) & Amend. #2.  A rare transitional variant of the MIL-J-7823 pattern and first contract L.W. Foster jacket, it features rounded pocket flaps in place of the normal scalloped type and has pierced U.S.N. marks on the storm flap in addition to the U.S.N. painted marks behind the collar. It probably dates from 1956/7 and is manufactured in seal brown goatskin with matching rayon/nylon lining.  The leather is in excellent overall condition, strong, clean, and aside from a few scuffs and minor abrasion, undamaged.  The arms are slightly dry to the touch but fit for wear and would no doubt soften up a bit with some leather dressing and use.  There are a few holes in the right cuff otherwise the 'knits' are very good.  Excellent unusual light coloured mouton fur collar with a buttoned closure strap. The original Conmar zip is fully functional and the lining undamaged and complete with label. This lovely jacket has the original US Naval Reserve owner's name patch sewn in place, 'J.E. Olson'.  It also has original cloth woven Naval Air Training Command shoulder and Vertical Fighter Training Squadron (1), Basic Training Group 3-S patches, correct for the same 1950s  period.  Stock code J25025.
