Imperial Japanese Navy 1930s pattern flying helmet. This pattern saw service right through WW2. Constructed from a lightweight mid brown coloured leather with leather earflaps, soft 'fold-back' leather peak with securing stud, an adjustable tightening strap around the crown, twin rear goggle straps and chinstrap secured via a single pronged buckle. The leather is in reasonable condition. The right side as worn and the rear are very good and supple. Most of the remaining sections are good but there is damage to the front crown area, leather peak and earflap area on the left side. Some repairs have been attempted on the latter as shown in the photographs. All the straps are good. A small green canvas patch is sewn to the rear of the helmet - this is where the owner would have written his name but this has not been done or has faded. The inner crown is lined in a fine velvet type material, all in very good condition and complete with Yokosuka Naval Supply depot issue labels marked with Japanese Kanji. Not without issues but displays quite well and is priced accordingly. Stock code H29473.
