Imperial Japanese Army fighter pilot pattern flying helmet in a relatively lightweight/thin dark brown coloured leather. Pressed hardened leather earcups and a green cotton twill lining. Two press stud fastened goggle straps and an adjustable leather strap at the rear of the helmet. Fitted with a circle of leather to the forehead on which the Army 'star' is sewn. The leather is in reasonably good condition but crumpled in appearance with variable patination and it feels rather dry. The chinstrap has minor damage near the tip and both strap retaining rings have some surface corrosion. The helmet retains both goggle straps and the adjustable rear strap. The studs on the former and rings on the latter have soft verdigris deposits but this can be removed quite easily with care. The lining has a few small holes but nothing serious. Markings indicate the helmet to be size 'small'. There are various other Kanji stamps inside the earcups. A little tired looking but a good display piece. Stock code H25176.
